Maharashtra Nursing Council is dedicated to safe guard the health of the society at large by public interest by regulating the nursing profession by registration, providing highest standard of Nursing and Midwifery education and practice in the state of Maharashtra & Goa State.

As a regulatory body for Nursing and Midwifery, the Maharashtra Nursing Council is the vanguard for quality Nursing Education by ensuring that Nursing and Midwifery personnel are competently educated and trained to deliver Professional Health Care.

Function of Maharashtra Nursing Council

1. Registration :

  • Registration of qualified candidates to practice in the state of Gujarat.
  • Verification of Registration Certificates issued from the council whenever there is a request from any employer across the world. The documents communicated is cross checked with the existing records for authenticity.
  • Renewal of previously registered candidates with the council.

2. Examinations and award Diploma :

  • The Council is an approved Examination body for the Examinations for Diploma ANM, Diploma GNM and Post Basic Diploma Nursing Courses.
  • The Council conducts the examinations .

3. Approval and Supervision of Institutions :

  • The Council conducts inspections to verify the teaching, learning facilities as well as programme conduction at Nursing Educational institutions.

4. Look into the complaint against nurses :

  • The Council takes disciplinary actions against the nurses found to be observing unethical behavioral or mal practice.

5. CNE :

  • Organization of continuing Education Programme for nursing professionals.
  • Award credit hours for CNE Programmes organized by Education institution and hospitals for the purpose of renewal of Registration.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)–B.Sc Nursing Programme

Q.1 How many supplementary examination a student is allowed to take to clear the semester?

Ans: INC has specified broad examination regulations in revised B.Sc.(N) syllabus .Individual universities can make their own plans to execute the same. –Regular examinations are specified in the syllabus every semester and the supplementary examinations of previous semesters can be planned by the University during all regular exams. -The maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed eight years.

Q.2 How much attendance classroom and clinical separately does the student require to be eligible for the examination?

Ans: In this regard, refer Examination Regulations of B.Sc.(N) syllabus where it is clearly mentioned- -A candidate must have minimum of 80% attendance (irrespective of the kind of absence) in theory and practical in each course / subject for appearing for examination. -A candidate must have 100% attendance in each of the practical areas before award of degree.

Q.3 Does odd semester subjects supplementary examination have to be in odd semester regular examinations only and similarly for even semester subject or can all the subject be put in all semester examinations.

Ans: In odd semesters when two regular odd semester examinations are conducted, the supplementary in the same examinations can be of the same paper if the examination is conducted on the same day. In this way the university load can be managed yet enable students to appear for supplementary and progress to next semesters without losing years. However other semesters’ supplementary examinations need to be conducted during the regular semester exams.

Q.4 Once the student loses one semester esp. due to partial attendance or nil attendance how can she complete the hours of the lost semester if she is allowed to get promoted to the next semester?

Ans: Cannot be promoted when the student does not have the attendance as he/she will not appear for exam without attendance and internal marks.

Q.5 What was the duration of GNM course till the year 2014? What was the duration of revised curriculum of GNM course from the year 2005 to 2014? What was the duration of GNM course during the year 2015 to 2016? What is the duration of GNM course from the year 2017 to present date?

Ans: The duration of the diploma of GNM has been reduced from 3 ½ years to 3 years from the academic year 2015-2016 onwards. Further the internship is integrated into the revised syllabus. The 3 years GNM course approved by the Council before 2008 and the 3 ½ GNM course after 2008 approved by the Council are equivalent from the institute recognized by State Nursing Registration Council & found suitable by INC under section 13 & 14.
