Job Responsibility of  Staff Nurse (common):-

⦁ Assist in ambulation and rehabilitation.
⦁ Counselling of the patients, and relatives.
⦁ Assist in technical procedures, such as Naso-gastric intubation, endotracheal intubation, Gastric Gaxage and Lavage, Catheterization, major dressings and assists in administration of transfusion, breast care, baby care, etc.
⦁ Perform procedures like Oxygen Therapy, intracath fixation, hot and cold applications, suction, urine testing for sugar, Acetone, and albumin, perineal care, etc.
⦁ Supervise nursing care being given by nursing students.
⦁ Co-ordinates patient care with various health team members.
⦁ Implement instructions given during doctors round.
⦁ Performs technical task, e.g., administration of medication, assist the doctors in various medical procedures, preparing articles and the patient for medical or Nursing procedures, recording vital signs, tube feeding, giving bowel wash, stomach wash, eye and ear care, collection and sending of specimens of indoor patient, pre and post-operative nursing care. Helps doctors in diagnosis and treatment.
⦁ Maintains intake and output chart.
⦁ Assess patient’s condition and records; take necessary action and reports to the concerned authority.
⦁ Imparts health education to the patient and his/her family.
⦁ Assist in transferring patient and accompany patient as and when required
⦁ Help the ward in charge to carry out her work.
⦁ Attends the nutritional needs of the patient, prepare individual diet and feed helpless patients.
⦁ Facilitate admission and discharges process for the patient.
⦁ Maintains personal hygiene and comforts of the patient.
⦁ Hands over and takes over the patient and ward equipment and supply.
⦁ Observe the Ward cleanliness.
⦁ Write day &night report book of all patient treatment ordered by their treating doctors
⦁ Prepare patients for operations and see that he or she is sent to operation theatre with all necessary papers and pre medication.
⦁ Maintain case paper, investigation reports etc.in the proper file or board, see that all reports get attached to the case paper temperature chart i/o chart maintain properly. Case paper should not be allowed to be handled by anyone except the doctor in charge of patients especially for medico-legal case.
⦁ Staff nurse must be known about fire exit plan of hospital especially in wards for safety of patients.
⦁ Staff nurse must be aware about special medications & injections like sedatives and narcotics and keep under lock and key
⦁ Biomedical waste management and segregation must be done after completing procedures
⦁ Prepare and check ward supplies.
⦁ Supervises students and other junior Nursing personnel working with her/him.
⦁ Maintains ward record and reports assigned to her/him by the sister in charge.
